Why You Suck At Internet Marketing – Getting Your First Sale
By Jesse Kemmerer
In my opinion, this is one of the most important marketing lessons you’ll ever learn…
You can learn all the marketing strategies, tricks, and tips in the world – you can learn everything ever taught about SEO, list-building, copywriting, and traffic generation – but without this one essential lesson, chances are you’ll never make a dime in your entire online career.
As a statistic, most internet marketers will work for years without actually making any money. They’ll buy tons of expensive courses, fall victim to every ‘next-big-thing’ launch that comes their way, and keep up-to-date with every latest and greatest guru marketing tactic. They’ll even take action on what they’re taught, building huge, content-filled sites, creating thousands of Web 2.0 properties, spending hundreds – or even thousands – of dollars on paid traffic sources, and writing SEO friendly articles until they’re blue in the face.
…But still, most marketers won’t make a dime in their online career. And I firmly believe it’s because they’re not aware of this tiny little fact.
Before you can ever build an online business, you need to learn how to make money online.
Catch my drift? Let me break it down a little…
You see, a business is something that works with very little effort. If you’re running a business, you don’t need to worry about if money will be coming in this month or next. With a true business – whether online or offline – you could take a two-week vacation and return to see the exact same amount of money coming in as when you left.
In the online world, a few examples of businesses would be affiliate blogs, membership sites, rolling product launches, etc. The list goes on and on.
Each of those business models, however, needs capital (ie. MONEY) in order to get off the ground and running. In order to consistently and efficiently make money with any one of those business models, you need money for:
-Traffic Generation
-Software/Graphics
-Website Development
-Shopping Carts/Affiliate Management
-SEO
-Advertising
You get the picture.
While you could actually do everything yourself without spending a dime, it could take many, many months – or even years – before you ever make your first dollar online. Because if you’re not sacrificing your money, you’re ultimately sacrificing your time. And waiting months or years to see the fruit of your labors just isn’t cool…
Instead of going for the gold right away, I teach all of my students to go for low-hanging fruit. I teach them to employ dead-simple, completely unsexy, in-your-face obvious techniques to put cash in their pockets within a few days… or sooner. Even if it’s only a sale or two, making quick money ultimate does three really, really huge things for you:
-Boosts your confidence.
-Boosts your action.
-Puts money in your pocket for bigger, better techniques.
Believe it or not, there are actually a few dead-easy methods to making quick money online – without spamming, being unethical, or selling your soul to the marketing gurus.
Even if they do know these methods, however, most people will never put them into action. Why? Because they’re trying to make a million dollars before they’ve made a penny; they’re trying to create an entire business from scratch before they’ve ever made any money online.
The First Sale Is The Biggest Barrier…
By far, the first sale is the absolute hardest barrier for any newcomer to overcome. All because they’re attacking the task the wrong way… they’re trying to build an online business before they’ve ever made any money online. And that’s the absolute WRONG way to go about internet marketing.
If you haven’t made your first sale yet, your entire focus should be on overcoming that task. Your entire focus should be on making your very first dollar online. You goal shouldn’t be getting your blog finished or SEOing your way to top rankings or driving loads of traffic to terrible Clickbank products…
…Your goal should be to make your first sale online. Doing whatever unsexy, simple tactic you have to.
If you can make one sale, you can make ten. And if you can make ten sales, you can make one-hundred.
Stick close because in the next few days, I’m going to be showing you exactly how I made my first sale online, starting with absolutely NOTHING. Be forewarned, however… this isn’t something that will make you a thousand bucks overnight or buy you that brand new Porsche. It could very well be the catalyst leading up to that, though…
